🌸 Chapter 294 · Rubella (German Measles)

Nelson Textbook of Pediatrics 22nd Edition | Mild exanthematous disease caused by rubella virus. Major concern: congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) when infection occurs during pregnancy (especially first trimester). Clinical: postauricular/occipital lymphadenopathy, low-grade fever, maculopapular rash (face → trunk, resolves in 3 days). Complications: arthralgia/arthritis (adolescents/adults), thrombocytopenia, encephalitis. Diagnosis: rubella IgM, PCR. Prevention: MMR vaccine. No specific treatment.
